Stripe to Offer Invite-Only Services in India Amidst Evolving Regulatory Landscape

As of last month, businesses in India will need to request an invitation in order to open a new Stripe account, as opposed to the previous method of utilizing the website. This invite-only approach means that Stripe will only be able to support a select group of businesses at this time, with a focus on international growth.

Although the Indian legal landscape is still evolving, Stripe aims to offer Indian consumers the same experience it does for all of its clients worldwide. For example, enabling all new customers to start quickly and with easy onboarding is a crucial Stripe function that it is now unable to promise in India. Stripe is still steadfastly dedicated to India, and by the second half of 2025, it wants to expand its infrastructure to accommodate even more consumers.
