Anthony Soohoo has been appointed as the new CEO of MoneyGram International, a global leader in financial technology for digital and cross-border payments, with immediate effect. Soohoo, a seasoned IT leader with a solid foundation in digital transformations, takes over for Alex Holmes, who has been the CEO and Chairman since 2016. Holmes will continue to serve as a consultant to help Soohoo through its transformation. It is anticipated that Soohoo's leadership will propel MoneyGram's development trajectory and further solidify its standing as a digital-first financial services provider by concentrating on growing the company's digital capabilities and fortifying its wide worldwide partner network.
Soohoo brings over 30 years of experience in technology and business leadership, including his recent role as Executive Vice President of Walmart's Home Division, where he successfully implemented a digital transformation strategy. His experience spans top-tier companies such as CBS, Yahoo, and Apple, along with founding successful tech ventures. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, MoneyGram serves more than 50 million customers across over 200 countries, processing over $200 billion annually. As one of the world’s largest cash distribution and digital currency on-and-off ramp providers, MoneyGram has built a robust, customer-centric model, with digital transactions now making up more than half of its money transfer business.
