uBreakiFix by Asurion CEO Dave Barbuto: From the Call of Duty to Call of Duty

The next time you get your xBox fixed, you can thank Dave Barbuto.

Barbuto is a former U.S. Army infantry officer and now leads as the Chief Executive Officer of uBreakiFix by Asurion, an authorized repair provider for the world's top tech brands. In January, uBreakiFix and Microsoft announced a groundbreaking partnership that enables Barbuto’s company to repair xBox consoles using genuine parts, tools, and training directly from Microsoft. For Barbuto, it was a full-circle moment: from the call of duty to Call of Duty. While there’s no single way to become a successful FinTech executive, Barbuto’s career was forged off the beaten path, and he has often shared how his seven-and-a-halfyears in the military paved the way for uBreakiFix’s success.

On a 2024 podcast, he recalled a training exercise that went haywire, leading him to reevaluate his leadership approach. His takeaway as a leader, you have to take responsibility when things go badly. “Whenever you’re pointing the finger at somebody else,” he said, “you got three fingers pointing back.”

Barbuto’s focus helped him rise through the leadership of Asurion, which he joined shortly after leaving the Army, and at which he stayed for more than 15 years, first as the Senior Director for Call Center Solutions and later as Vice President of Customer Solutions. When Asurion acquired uBreakiFix in 2019, the company, which started as a single store in Orlando in 2009, its Founder and CEO Justin Wetherill continued to lead the business—until Barbuto took the helm two years later to accelerate its expansion.

Today, uBreakiFix has more than 700 stores and repairs over 3 million devices annually, from phones to tablets to video game consoles. With the majority of the U.S. population living within 10 miles of a store, Barbuto is committed to solving their digital hiccups.  “Our goal is to be a one-stop shop, no matter the product or problem,” he said.

Now partnering with major brands like Microsoft, Amazon, and Samsung for authorized repairs, uBreakiFix is charging forward. Six years after Asurion’s acquisition, and four years after Barbuto’s leadership, the company’s mission remains as clear as ever—delivering seamless service to tech users nationwide.
