Capital One VP Swiatek Hired as COO by African Banking Platform Moniepoint

Referred to as “the Square for Africa,” Nigerian card payment processor Moniepoint has repeatedly broken new ground in fintechs on the African continent. Boasting a monthly processing volume in excess of $10 billion, the company reached profitability in 2020 and has partnered with more than 600,000 businesses in its mission to bring the fintech revolution to Africa.

As of March 2023, Moniepoint will add yet another feather in its cap in the form of top-level leadership. According to a press release on March 6th, the company will be led by new Chief Operating Officer Pawel Swiatek. Swiatek is best known for his work as Managing Vice President at Capital One for four years, during which he expanded operations to millions of underbanked individuals. He is expected to contribute a great deal of experience in growth and inclusion to Moniepoint’s ongoing business goals.

“Since meeting Tosin last year, then visiting the Nigerian market, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about Moniepoint and the huge potential it has to create genuine, meaningful change,” said Swiatek in the press release. “The team has seen rapid growth over the past few years, and part of my role coming in will be to take over the day-to-day operational running of the business and enable us to more accurately predict growth as Moniepoint continues to scale and enter new markets.”
