Irish Fintech Opens New Office in ‘Music City’

Global Shares, a provider of employee stock plan management solutions, can now call Music City home. The company, which creates and supports cloud-based software products for private and public companies to manage employee equity plans, has expanded its international reach with the opening of its new Nashville office at 501 Union St. Details of the downtown office lease were not disclosed.

In the past year, the company—headquartered in Cork, Ireland—was named Deloitte’s Fintech Company of the Year in 2017 and Deloitte’s Fast 50 Fintech companies in 2018 and 2019, and has more than doubled its overall workforce since it was founded in 2005. The new U.S. office will allow the company to expand even more through 2020 and 2021 as it hires 15 associates within the next 12 months and 200 local employees throughout the next two years. Dozens of new roles have already opened up at the firm, including head of U.S. operations, stock plan administrators, and share plan analysts.

“Equity incentives are important tools for companies to both attract and retain talent, helping them increase productivity and profitability,” said Hugh Curran, managing director of Global Shares North America, who is based in Jersey City and will oversee the Nashville office until the company hires a head of U.S. operations. “Global Shares manages the entire equity compensation process—from plan administration and online trading to customized portals and financial reporting. Our solutions are cutting edge, scalable and global—and future-proofed for our clients as they grow.”

Now, Nashville, known as the country music capital of the world, is part of Global Shares’ identity. The city has an emerging talent pool and growing tech industry with multiple, tech startups like Groups360, Built Technologies, and Axial Healthcare. Several companies have also opened offices in the city, including Launch Pad and We Work, who recently planted some roots in East Nashville.

Nashville’s mayor weighed in on the company’s new presence in the city, saying, “Nashville welcomes Global Shares as they make this important investment for their growth. As the city’s finance and technology sectors continue to grow this announcement of 50 new jobs will create a better future for many of Nashville’s residents.”

Today, Global Shares has 15 offices worldwide in Munich, Malta, Portugal, Hong Kong, the UK, Ireland, China, Japan, and within the U.S. This year, alone, the company opened offices in Lisbon, Tokyo, Cork City, and Barcelona.
