Mastercard Joins U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium for Trustworthy AI Standards

Mastercard has announced its collaboration with the U.S. Department of Commerce to establish the U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC), aiming to develop reliable AI standards. The consortium will bring together a diverse group of participants, including AI developers, Fortune 500 companies, academic teams, nonprofits, and various U.S. government agencies. The primary objective of AISIC is to conduct research and provide guidance on AI safety issues, laying the foundation for future standards and policies. Through this initiative, members, including Mastercard, aim to ensure close collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology under the Commerce Department, fostering the exchange of best practices, insights, and advancements within the broader AI safety community.

Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach emphasized the importance of establishing trust in AI technology, stating that meaningful standards are essential to unlocking its full potential. Miebach highlighted the significance of the public-private partnership facilitated by AISIC in achieving this goal and promoting responsible AI practices. Mastercard, known for prioritizing individual rights and societal well-being in technology development, brings its commitment to data and tech responsibility to AISIC, intending to contribute to the establishment of robust principles for the responsible use of AI in collaboration with industry peers, regulators, and policymakers.
